Amsterdam - the capital of the Netherlands
A big city in a small package Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands. The capital of the Netherlands is a famous global city with a cosmopolitan and multicultural sphere.
The city has 750,000 inhabitants and measures about 13 km (9 miles) across.
What makes Amsterdam a unique and welcoming city?Amsterdam is easy to get to know and easy to get around (especially if you ‘go native' and buy or rent a bike!).
Therefore Amsterdam offers the advantages of a big city--culture, entertainment, good public transport, international shops and facilities, history and heritage--combined with the benefits of a small city--friendly and safe atmosphere, not too much traffic, and only a short journey to wherever you need to go.
Amsterdam is also (relatively) quick to reach from almost any spot on the globe, as Schiphol airport is one of the largest international airports in the world. The city has proved itself to be an attractive city for international investment throughout the centuries, from the Golden Age up till today.
From pristine beaches to dense forests and from vast flat countryside to rolling hills, Holland has much to offer as a holiday destination.
The Netherlandsis particularly famous for its flowers, gardens and flower auctions and visitors from all over the world are drawn to the world`s largest spring garden at Keukenhof for an unforgettable experience of colour and scent.
Open daily for just two months of the year from mid March to mid May, this former nineteenth century landscape park was acquired by the Royal Dutch Association of bulb Growers in 1949 and made into a spectacular bulb garden, covering an area of thirty-two hectares and situated between Haarlem and Leiden on the N208.
Combine a visit to the Keukenhof and nearby bulbfields with a three course dinner and overnight stay in the characterful Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg hotel for just £99 per person which includes entry to the Keukenhof.
Built in the style of the Dutch Renaissance and set in large grounds modelled on the Het Loo estate in Apeldoorn, the five star hotel offers old-world accommodation with a welcoming ambience. The hotel is situated in Santport only twenty minutes from Schiphol Airport.
Amsterdam uses no paper tickets on buses & trams since April, 2010
Amsterdam city made a decision to cancel the paper tickets system on buses and trams on April 1. The new smart card (ov-chipkaart) is the only middle of payment for the city's metro for some time.
The Netherlands is the most friendly country
According to the poll of British tourists, Holland is the most welcoming tourists country in Europe.
